Tanks and Healers.

As part of my regular diet of caffeine, nicotine, and blogs I read Ratshags latest post. This then lead me on to the article on WoW Insider and a blog I had never read before Pretty In Plate, which I liked so much I decided to add it to my blogroll.

Also a healer finally decided to post something about healing in the comments of last nights post. Thank you Banshee, and I don't use a "heal me" macro, I personally find them obnoxious. I will however ask SG the Chatadin where my heals are, but that's just teasing him. But nobody is explaining to me how that whole healing business works :( . I take damage and healers heal me, that's the sum total of my knowledge on healing. So Priest, Druids, Paladins, and Shaman of the Internet please, please enlighten this ignorant dwarf.

All this talk of healers and tanks got me thinking, although my knowledge of healing is severely lacking, and while there are many healers that I trust to do their job well, there are a couple of healers that just feel right. My health bar moves in exactly the right way, and almost always goes back up before I get that "Oh S###!" feeling, and when I do get that feeling I know somethings up and take measures to give them a little extra time.

I have also noticed that getting healed feels good, I don't know if other tanks take getting healed for granted, but for me seeing those green numbers gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Then again that could just me being punch drunk from tanking one too many mobs.

So until next time this is Stuntyone the Incompetent Warrior signing off.

not so much a comment on your blog....
But a very good druid healing blog is Resto4life, long-running, informative, occasionally a bit too mathematical (for me), and enjoyable reads.
Its not a replacement for your own slot on healing, but if you like it maybe add it to your blogroll, if you feel the need to 'branch' out a bit (Lols!! Master of puns!)

I'm a holy priest, just starting Karazhan. I'm assigned to the MT; that's my sole responsibility. In other words, if the world is going to hell in a handbasket, as far as I'm concerned, there are only 2 people in the Raid: The MT, and me.

That said, I generally am trying to keep the rest of my group healed, my focus shackled, and I also glance at the OT's group when I can.

So, 90% of the time, I'm focused on your health bar. I'm spamming Prayer of Mending (the frisbee), and hitting you with Renew (HoT) as the CDTs allow. I also watch for spike damage, and keep my fingers hovering over my 3 Greater Heal keys (GH has 7 ranks; I only use 5, two of which are fired by Shift-Clicking buttons 1 & 2; GH7 is the third).

Your health drops a couple thousand and I'm hitting GH2; it's a 3-sec cast (which is why Pallys make better MT healers, IMO). In the middle of that, you take another 2K hit. Okay, hit esc and hit GH 5,6, or 7. I'm committed to this spell now: If I interrupt again, you could die. So let's say I opt for GH5.

While casting, you take another hit, so as soon as GH5 lands, I am casting GH5 or 7. The art of priest healing is to anticipate where your health will be, not when I start my cast, but when I finish, so I put you as close to 100% as possible, but try not to overheal (that wastes mana).

Because I'm fairly new to raid healing, I tend to overheal. Fortunately, my Healing bonus is SSC-level, and I have a pretty deep mana pool, so I can get away with that as I learn the nuances of MT healing.

And hoolie's recommendation of Resto4Life is an excellent one. Another great resource is Egotistical Priest.

@Hoolie/Banshee

Ouch, that pun was baaaad. I may try it when tanking next, it should generate enough aggro for me to take a quick nap during the fight.

@kestrel & Hoolie

Thanks for recommending Resto4life. It's informative and easy to read, so much so that it's getting added to my blogroll.
